Commitment to Safety and Reliability

Is it safe if it is organic?

In current agricultural practice, we are instructed to usethe polishing process pesticide and chemical fertilizer. On average each year, chemical fertilizer is sprayed 3-4 times, once for killing weeds, and 3 times for for disease protection. These numbers are designed so that farmers with less workers can produce rice efficiently and to be able to produce a product of equal standard. Of course these numbers are calculated to have lower than the standard pesticide residues level. Even though it is lower than the standard level, pesticide is pesticide. There is no guarantee that an accumulation of pesticide will not harm our bodies.

At MAISEN, we prepare the soil with organic fertilizer and good microbes. We do not use chemical fertilizer at all.

We need effective strategies since we only have 5 workers managing 150 hectors rice field; otherwise it would not be possible to provide rice of a stable quality. Rice is the staple food. No matter how much effort we put into production or how completely organic it is, we cannot provide rice at a price that is too high. Also, Japan is small, even though we do not use pesticides; the adjacent fields are being sprayed. Naturally, water flows downhill. What if the farmers in higher areas use pesticide? What if the rain contains harmful substances? There will always be risk.

Thus, it is not always the truth to say that all organic food is safe. Pesticides and weed killers specially designed for organic farming are now available. This is the reason why we do not apply the term "organic" to our company despite our rice having no pesticide residue.

Commitment the world of no pesticide residue

ow can we provide safe and reliable rice? How can we keep the price affordable as a staple food?

Delivering rice with no pesticides residue is our number one priority. Lower than the standard level was not good enough. As we mentioned previously, there is a possibility of harm to one's body when pesticide residues accumulate in our bodies, even at the lower than standard level.

"Delivering our rice with no pesticide residue!"

After much study, we came up with the solution of using a weak weed killer once right after planting. This enables the young rice plant to get enough sunlight at the time of the most growth since there are no weeds to hinder the sunlight. We succeeded in managing the rice field as big as 40 Tokyo Domes with only a few workers. We request pesticides residues testing at a specialized agency every year, for over ten years, voluntarily. Although it is a weak weed killer, we cannot provide rice that has even a small amount of pesticide residue.

Thankfully, we have never found any residue in any of the 200 tests. An agent from the testing organization tells us that there is no other company with our size that practices the test voluntarily. This is the kind of pride and confidence we have in our products. We will continue testing and reporting the test results.

You can see the results scientifically but the best proof of the "safety and reliability" may comes from the mud snails, small fish, dragonflies, and swallows in our rice fields every year.
